Transportation

Shuttle service is available Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The shuttle runs between Nora’s Home and Scurlock Tower (6560 Fannin St., Houston, TX 77030). Most transplant centers are within walking distance of the shuttle point (see map below). Please note that the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center and HCA Houston Healthcare Medical Center are NOT within walking distance but are a short drive from Nora’s Home.

Parking

There is plenty of parking on Nora’s Home campus with 66 regular stalls and 8 accessible stalls near the home entrance. The gate to the lot closes at 11:00 p.m. and reopens at 5:00 a.m.. Guests must call Guest Services at 832-831-3720 to open the gate if they arrive at the home during those hours. For safety reasons, all guests are encouraged to lock their cars and hide their valuables. Nora’s Home is not responsible for missing or stolen property.

Food

We are fortunate to have wonderful individuals, companies, churches, and civic groups volunteer to provide meals for our guests periodically as a Chef of the Day. We also have two community pantries available to all guests that are stocked by donations from the Houston Food Bank, Second Servings, and community volunteers.

All guests will be assigned a pantry and refrigerator shelf to store their own personal food items in. Labeling supplies are available in the kitchen.

Social Support

We know that organ transplantation can be a long and difficult journey. At Nora’s Home, you’ll have an instant support network. You can expect to meet some incredible families–some like to share their story with you; some listen to you. At Nora’s you may find many lifelong friends. Many of our guests stay in touch long after their stay.

Are you new to transplant life? Consider finding a buddy! Having a buddy brings comfort in knowing that you are not alone in your journey and can be a resource to help guide you through the process. The Pre-to-Post Transplant Foundation Buddy Program is a program that allows people in the organ donation community to connect with each other to offer support and mentorship. The program is volunteer-based and is open to pre-transplant, post-transplant, caregivers, living donors, and donor families. You can request a buddy or apply to become a buddy! Educational Support

Nora’s Home also aims to facilitate transplant-related educational opportunities for our guests. Guest speakers and webinars are frequently provided for guests to enjoy on a variety of topics from writing a thank you letter to your donor family, nutritious food preparation for transplant life, or financial tips on stretching your medical dollars further for your treatment. Thanks to our supportive transplant partners such as LifeGift, Houston Methodist Transplant Center, and CareDx who regularly support our guests through transplant educational opportunities at the home.

Guests can also find more information and transplant resources by visiting our online Transplant Learning Center.
