FAQ

How far are you from the Transplant Centers?

We are conveniently located approximately 2.5 miles from the Texas Medical Center. A shuttle is available to transport our guests to Scurlock Tower (Houston Methodist) Monday-Friday from 6:30 a.m.-6:00 p.m. The shuttle drop-off and pick-up is only at Scurlock Tower; it does not make other stops. Walking is required to reach most other transplant centers from the shuttle point. The VA Hospital and HCA Healthcare Houston are not within walking distance but are a short drive from the home.

How much does it cost to stay at Nora's Home?

No guest is ever turned away from Nora’s Home due to an inability to pay. For all guests, household income is taken into consideration when determining the nightly rate. Guests who are financially able to pay whether through insurance, income or Medicaid are asked to pay the standard nightly rate. Upon completion of the Resident Referral Form, a rate will be quoted to you based on financial need.

What time is check-in and check-out?

Check-in starts at 3:00 p.m. and check-out is at noon. For the sake of safety, first-time guests are expected to check-in before 10:00 p.m. Once guests are checked-in they are free to come and go as they choose throughout their stay. There is staff on-site 24 hours. The gate to the home is locked from 11:00 p.m.-5:00 a.m. but guests can be admitted in during those hours by calling Guest Services at 832-831-3720.

Are meals provided?

Although volunteer cooks prepare dinners occasionally, guests are expected to provide their own meals when volunteers are not scheduled. Our kitchens are fully stocked with pots, pans, dishes, and silverware. Each room has a designated shelf in the community refrigerators along with designated cupboard space to store non-perishable items.

Donated dry/canned goods, as well as fresh items are available at times for guest use. The kitchens are also equipped with freezers, microwaves and a variety of small kitchen appliances. See our complete list of amenities here.

How long can I stay?

Length of stay can be 1-90 days depending on availability. Reservations beyond 30 days are made on a case-by-case basis, as approved by the Operations Manager.

To alleviate wait lists and facilitate as many guest schedules as possible, guests requiring lodging beyond the 90-day maximum will be referred to one of our partnering organizations for a time period before being permitted to return to the home.

Reservations can be made up to 60 days in advance and guests can have no more than two reservations in the system at one time. For additional questions regarding your reservation, please call Guest Services at 832-831-3720.

Are visitors allowed?

Visiting hours are from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm. All visitors and healthcare professionals must check-in at the Welcome Desk. All visitors must be free of any communicable diseases and 10 years of age or older.

Can I bring my pet(s) or any plants?

No. Because of the high risk of infection and sensitivity to various microorganisms in transplant patients, no pets or plants (even bouquets) are permitted. Please make arrangements for your pets and plants to be cared for elsewhere throughout the duration of your stay.
