Say hello to Bill Musick and Judy Woods from Bridge City, Texas. Bill is recuperating from a recent kidney transplant at Houston Methodist Hospital. While talking with Judy about her stay she graciously said, “Nora’s Home is a great place to relax and get well. There’s lots of ways to enjoy being out of the room in many different surroundings. We enjoyed the beautifully landscaped patio and the front entryway benches. The kitchen was kept fresh, clean and well stocked. You have thought of everything!”

This week we welcome Robert and Mary Nelton from Chauvin, LA. Robert is a pre-lung transplant patient of Houston Methodist. When asked about his stay with us, Robert happily said, “Nora’s Home is the best and the staff is the “bestest!”

This week, say hello to Steven and Janet Taylor from Montgomery TX. Steven is a post-liver patient of Memorial Hermann Hospital Transplant Center. When ask about their stay with us, Janet said, “Nora’s Home is a wonderful place to stay. The staff is friendly, the home is clean and we’ve even made new friends.”

Guests of the Week 5-9-16

This week we welcome Charles and Rebecca Land from Victoria, TX. Rebecca is a post-9-year heart and liver transplant recipient. When ask about their very first stay with us, Rebecca stated, “Nora’s Home is a safe haven in the stormy days of our lives. A huge ‘thank you’ to Nora’s parents for seeing this need and acting on it to make our individual needs and miracles come together in one place. This is our first stay. I can feel God’s presence with Nora leading the march. I feel so emotionally involved with these transplant families and will always have them in my thoughts and prayers. I had a heart/liver transplant 9 years ago and what a gift it is! My life is so full of joy! My thanks to God and the families that made the amazing decision to donate.”


This week we are happy to introduce James Nieto from Roswell, NM. He is recovering after a successful kidney transplant in March. Mr. Nieto was honored to be interviewed at Univision 45 Houston this morning, thanks to our friends at LifeGift. He expressed his sincere gratitude to all those involved in his transplant journey, along with Nora’s Home. Tune in on May 1st as part of Univision 45 Contigo, which works in partnership with leading organizations who share an interest in serving the community and bringing focus to the community’s most critical issues. Thank you Mr. Nieto, thank you LifeGift and thank you Univision 45 Houston!

Say hello to Jeanna and John Suttle from Corrigan, TX. John is recovering from liver transplant surgery performed at Houston Methodist Hospital. When asked about their stay, Jeanna answered, “Thank you for providing the “Lazy River” feel. It was such a treat after the hectic emergency living we went through. Being so close to the hospitals was very important to us. We are so blessed as a family to have been able to utilize Nora’s Home’s services. Thank you Drs. Gaber and thank you Nora!”

This week we welcome Kenneth Barton and his wife, Melinda,
from Electra, TX. Kenneth underwent liver and kidney transplant surgery at Houston Methodist Hospital in January. While recovering at Nora’s Home, several family members stopped by to celebrate Kenneth’s birthday.

While chatting with family members, Melinda said, “Nora’s Home has been a wonderful blessing. We feel so at home. Kenneth started his journey December 4, 2015. He spent 66 days of his hospital time in ICU. He was blessed with a liver on January 28, 2016 and kidney the following day. He then received a pacemaker on February 19th. So coming to Nora’s Home after all that has been so wonderful! Thanks to all the staff for making us feel welcome.”

Happy 73rd Birthday to our Guest of the Week, Ricardo Alvear, from Melissa, TX! He is here with his wife, Gloria, recuperating from LVAD implant surgery performed at Houston Methodist. As the two celebrated this day quietly, Gloria commented, “Nora’s Home’s staff have been very helpful during Ricardo’s recovery. This is a great place to be in. Everyone is very friendly and they will help you in any way they can to make the patient and the family member feel comfortable. We are glad we found this home in Houston.”

This week, we welcome Karen Slate from Meade, Kansas accompanied by her wonderful husband Garry, and her awesome donor, Mike Mariner. Karen and Mike are being tested at Houston Methodist for their upcoming kidney transplant surgery. After the trio spent a few days with us, Karen was pleased to report, “We were very welcomed and treated as family. The people are warm and make you feel right at home. It’s a very beautiful place to stay. Very clean with a ‘homey’ feel.”

Say hello to Mark George and his Mother, June, from Lake Charles, LA. Mark is feeling great following his kidney transplant surgery performed atMemorial Herman Transplant Center last week. We ask his Mom how things were going for the two of them here at Nora’s Home and she kindly answered, “Being here at Nora’s Home is like my home away from home. The people are so friendly and helpful. Also, they lend you their ears if you need to talk. Everything is so beautiful and I thank God for blessing us with the opportunity to stay here after his kidney transplant.” Welcome Mark and June!

This week, we would like to introduce Francis and Marie LeBlanc from Lafayette, LA. Francis underwent liver transplant surgery in December at Houston Methodist. Marie calls it their Christmas miracle! When asked about their stay at Nora’s Home, Marie graciously stated, “Being at Nora’s Home has been a blessed experience following my husband’s Christmas miracle. We were welcomed by helpful and caring staff and have made so many wonderful new friends. We are forever grateful to Nora’s Home for being here for us at a time of our greatest need! We asked the couple about the stay at Nora’s Home and Francis quickly answered, “At first, I was scared because I was far away from my home and family. Because of Nora’s Home, I felt right at home. The hospitality is great. I recommend it anybody who comes to Houston for a transplant. It is beautiful and very clean. Thank you Nora’s Home!”

Bobby is recovering from a recent LVAD implant performed at Memorial Hermann Hospital. We asked the Channells about their experience here at Nora’s Home and Barbara and Cindy agreed, “Nora’s Home is a life saver. It is such a clean, quiet, and stress free environment. The team members are very special. They are friendly, uplifting and there is always a smile on their faces. It is our home away from home. We are thankful for Nora’s Home. It is outstanding. Meet our Guest of the Week, Perry Jones and his beautiful wife Misty, who tied the knot this year.

Christmas came a little early for the newlyweds when Misty gave her husband the Gift of Life by donating her kidney. Perry is staying at Nora’s Home and being cared for by his mother, Debby, who said, “Nora’s Home is amazing! Everyone makes us feel at home. Being at Nora’s Home has made Perry’s healing so much faster. We will forever be thankful!”

Our Guest of the Week is Mary Quebedeaux from Opelousas, LA. Mary is in town visiting Houston Methodist for her post lung transplant check up.

She has stayed with us in the past and when asked what brings her back to Nora’s Home again and again she answered, “This place is amazing. You are surrounded with people who have gone or are going through the same things you are. The staff is wonderful! God Bless.”

Carlos received the ultimate gift, the “Gift of Life” from his daughter, Linda, who donated her kidney for him at Houston Methodist. Father and daughter are joined by Anita, Charlie and Sandra Moreno. When asked about their experience at Nora’s Home, they stated, “We are so grateful to Nora’s Home for providing such a welcoming and comfortable place for our family to reside following kidney transplant surgery. Say hello to our little friend and Guest of the Week, Carter Bertrand from Eunice, LA. Josh and Catherine’s 4 year old son is a post-transplant patient at Texas Children’s Hospital. Carter received his new liver 2 1/2 years ago and his parents are happy to report that he is doing great. When asked about their visit to Nora’s Home, Catherine replied, “Nora’s Home allows Carter plenty of room to be a boy. He can play, have fun and visit with all the other guests.” …He is quite the social butterfly…Welcome Carter, Catherine and Josh!

This week we are happy to welcome Tommie Foster and his father, Thomas, from Caddo Mills, TX. Tommie is awaiting a double lung transplant at Houston Methodist. When he and his father were asked about their stay at Nora’s Home, they concluded, ‘Nora’s Home is one of the most peaceful and kindest places we have ever been! It is a pure blessing to stay with the most helpful and nicest people from around the world. We are truly blessed to get the privilege to stay here with some great people. Thank the Lord.”

This week we are happy to welcome newcomers, Timothy Chark and Marshawna, along with returning guests, Richard and Mary Ann Chark from Alexandria, LA.

Timothy is here all the way from Sioux City, IA. to honor Richard with the Gift of Life by donating his kidney. They are both resting well at Nora’s Home following their surgeries at Methodist.Mary Ann was asked about their experiences with Nora’s Home and she kindly offered, “We sincerely thank Marilda and all the other staff for their courteous and most professional help during our stay at Nora’s Home. Thanks for providing such a warm and comfortable ‘home away from home’ for us and our family.”

This week we are happy to welcome Ronald and Floyanne Moreau. Ron received his LVAD placement at CHI St. Luke’s Hospital. After researching several options, the Moreau family chose Nora’s Home for his recovery. When we asked Floyanne about her thoughts on Nora’s Home, she graciously responded, “Nora’s Home has been the most wonderful place to recuperate and meet so many warm and giving people. We have been so blessed.”

July 22, 2015: Tom & Shirl Wade

We welcome Shirl Wade and her husband Tom from Sulphur, LA. Shirl is a post heart transplant patient of Memorial Hermann. When asked about their stay at Nora’s Home, both agreed, “We are so glad there is a place like Nora’s Home, our home away from home. We have me some great people here; the folks that work here and the other guests have been really helpful during this difficult time for us. We can’t thank you enough for just being here.”

July 15, 2015: Mrs. Emelda Andrus

This week we are happy to introduce Mrs. Emelda Andrus from Lafayette, LA. Mrs. Andrus is staying at Nora’s Home with her niece, Lacy Martin while she waits on ‘the call’ for a lung transplant. She shared with us her thoughts on Nora’s Home, “I would say that Nora’s Home is a home away from home. Very welcoming and family friendly. They provide help whenever help is needed. I would refer this place to anyone needing this service.”

July 1, 2015: Vincent Satcher & Lena Miller

Lena Miller and Vincent Satcher travel from Eastpointe, Michigan to Houston so that Lena can be evaluated for a lung transplant at Houston Methodist Hospital. When asked about what she thought of Nora’s Home, Lena simply said, “Nora’s Home is a beautiful home away from home.”

June 24, 2015: Hannah Crist & Henry Pacheco

We are happy to welcome Henry Pacheco and his daughter, Hannah Crist, from Albuquerque, New Mexico. Mr. Pacheco is being evaluated at Houston Methodist for a lung transplant. Even before being asked about Nora’s Home, Hannah shared, “My father and I are very impressed with how clean the room is. We also like how everyone is so friendly, the staff and the other patients. We are grateful to have been recommended to Nora’s Home. Thank you so much for making us feel right at home.”

June 10, 2015: Debbie & Joseph Lucero

Joseph and Debbie Lucero come all the way from Roswell, New Mexico to Nora’s Home while Joseph recovers from a liver transplantation. Debbie shared, “There are no words to describe Nora’s Home but with warm love. We were blessed to stay here for Joseph’s recovery. We made a new home with new family members. Love you Nora’s Home, thank you!”

June 3, 2015: Paolo & Patricia

Patricia Sandoval Sralla arrives from San Antonio, Texas with her son, Paolo. Patricia is here recovering from a double lung transplant performed at CHI St. Luke’s Hospital. When we asked about her recovery, Patricia answered, “My recovery began in earnest when I arrived at Nora’s Home. The staff and other guests are so friendly and welcoming, we’ve become family. The beautiful accommodations are relaxing and provide the feeling of being a home away from home. Thank you Nora’s Home!”

May 28, 2015: The Pitres Family

Welcome Jasper Pitres, along with his wife and daughter, Wadriane and Jasperlyn, from New Iberia, Lousinana. Jasper and his family are staying at Nora’s Home while he visits Houston Methodist for a kidney transplant evaluation. When ask about her thoughts on Nora’s Home, Mrs. Pitres graciously responded, “Nora’s Home is a wonderful place guests can call home. The staff and management are excellent/superb. There is no place we would rather be. 5 stars!!”

May 20, 2015: Delma & Pavel Reyes

Pavel and Delma Reyes join Nora’s Home from Cedar Park, Texas because Pavel needs to visit Houston Methodist for his pre-lung transplant appointment. During their stay, they remarked, “God created doctors to work through his hand and he created the miracle of Nora’s Home to again demonstrate his goodness, compassion and love.”

May 13, 2015: Lisa & Thomas Martinez

We are happy to have Lisa and Tomas Martinez from Alamo, Texas. Tomas is at Nora’s Home recovering from a recent liver transplant performed at Memorial Hermann Hospital. Lisa and her daughter, Jessica, stayed at Nora’s Home while Tomas was in the hospital waiting on his liver. When asked about their stay, Lisa said, “I want to thank Nora’s Home for everything they have done for us and I’ll tell my friends and family about Nora’s Home because we love it here!”

May 6, 2015: Dana & Reed Barrios

This week we welcome Reed and Dana Barrios from Cutt Off, Louisiana. Reed is a post lung and heart transplant patient of Houston Methodist. Upon check-out Dana was asked about their stay, and she said, “Nora’s Home is a great place to be when you are away from home. It just as good as being at home!”

April 29, 2015: Shirley Gillespie & Scott Warren

A pre-operation lung and liver patient of Houston Methodist, Scott Warren traveled from Keithville, Louisiana with his sister, Shirley Gillespie.  Shirley shared her thoughts about Nora’s Home by saying, “When life gives you a turn you don’t expect and you have to travel a long distance for a transplant, having a place to rest, eat and be with other supportive families can be difficult. Thankfully, we found Nora’s Home. It has been a God send to our family.”

April 22, 2015: David Bares & Dianna Harvill

David Bares recovers from a liver transplant surgery performed at Houston Methodist Hospital.  He travels with his sister, Dianna Harvill, from Beaumont, Texas. Dianna happily states, “It is such a blessing to move into a setting that welcomes you with open arms. The staff and guests alike drew us into their lives like beloved family members! There is continuous comfort, consolation and support for both patients and caregivers. There is no place Nora’s Home.”

April 15, 2015: Cay McCain & Freda Taylor

Freda Taylor comes from Sulphur, Louisiana, along with her long time friend, Cay McCain. Freda is an LVAD patient of CHI St. Luke’s Health. When we asked about her stay at Nora’s Home, she responded, “Nora’s Home has the best support group for transplant patients. We are like family here. We share our highs and our lows with one another, because you become a family unit here. There’s also lots of food and anything else a person may need. Nora’s Home welcomes everyone!”

April 8, 2015: Ivonne & Emilia Gonzalez

Welcome sixteen-year-old Emilia Gonzalez and her Mom, Ivonne Gonzalez, from Chihuahua, Mexico. Emilia is a patient of Texas Children’s Hospital and is here waiting for a liver transplant. Emilia was happy to report, “Nora’s Home has been a real blessing during our time far away from home.”

April 1, 2015: The Rainey Family

We are excited to welcome two-year-old Aubrey Rainey and her parents, Andrew and Michelle. Coming from Duck Hill, Mississippi, Aubrey is a liver transplant patient of Texas Children’s Hospital. When asked about their experience here are at Nora’s Home, Michelle said, “While waiting for our baby girl’s liver transplant, Nora’s Home has been a wonderful home away from home. We have met many warm and supportive people and are so thankful to be here.”

Maria Benitez  recovers from LVAD evaluation and surgery. Her son, Antonio Benitez, and his girlfriend, Dulce Aguilar, are waiting at Nora’s Home while Ms. Benitez continues her recovery at St. Luke’s Hospital. Antonio says, “What a wonderful place for heart patients and family members to stay while recovering.”

March 18, 2015: Sandra Gainer

We are honoring Sandra Gainer from Spicewood, Texas. When asked how she was feeling, Sandra replied, “Nora’s Home is such a wonderful and special place for my recovery; warm, clean, comfortable and filled with love. I am so grateful to be given exactly what I need during my recovery time. Good Bless you all!”

March 11, 2015: Sharon Rasberry

Welcome Sharon Rasberry, who is joining us from Jennings, Louisiana and is visiting Houston Methodist for a pre-op lung appointment. When asked about Nora’s Home, she responded, “Nora’s Home has been a home away from home. It has accommodated my needs and beyond. Without this place, we would be in a bind. The blessings here are over flowing.”

March 4, 2015: Telia & Timothy Lewis

We are happy to welcome Timothy and Telia Lewis from Jackson, Mississippi. Timothy is a heart recipient patient of Houston Methodist Hospital and he believes, “Nora’s Home is an atmosphere of family and comfort.” Timothy offers to his fellow organ recipients, “Quitting is not an option, see it through. Keep hope and faith alive.”

February 25, 2015

Edwards Lewis traveled to the Texas Medical Center from Beaumont, Texas with his caregivers, Charles and Emma Domingue from. At Houston Methodist Hospital Mr. Lewis will receive the gift of life from his cousin Dennis Bob. His caregivers say, “We feel honored to be guests here at Nora’s Home. The staff is wonderful.”


We welcome Harold Woodson and his daughter, Winter, all the way from from Memphis, Tennessee. Mr. Woodson is going to Houston Methodist for a lung transplant evaluation and he admits, “I like Nora’s Home because it’s homey, it feels just like home.” Winter echoes his sentiments by saying, “The atmosphere is so positive and warm.”


Nora’s Home welcomes Nan Marie McKenzie from San Antonio, Texas. Nan Marie is a pre-lung transplant patient visiting Houston Methodist with her daughter Amber Bipport. Nan Marie states, “Everyone has been so welcoming here at Nora’s Home. It makes dealing with the difficult stuff easier. Like I always say, just keep swimming.”

January 21, 2015: Sharon Stanberry & Dena Steele

We are happy to have Sharon Stanberry and her daughter, Dena Steele,  join us from Huntington, Texas. Mrs. Stanberry is recovering from her liver transplant at Houston Methodist Hospital and she says, “Nora’s Home has a wonderful atmosphere. It is like a home away from home. It is just beautiful and the staff is friendly and very helpful.”

January 14, 2015: Mark Johnson & Renita Newton

Welcome Renita Newton and Mark Johnson from Lubbock, Texas. Renita is a pre-op liver patient and goes to the Memorial Hermann Hospital. Renita says, “Nora’s Home is like a home away from home. Everybody here is friendly and caring. The staff and other guests here treat you as though you are their family and I am truly blessed to have come into contact with Nora’s Home”


Our first guests of the week for 2015, Blaine and Debra Tam, arrive from Pineville, Louisiana. Blaine is a post lung transplant patient and here for follow up appointments at Houston Methodist. Blaine and Debra exclaim, “We love, love, love Nora’s Home. Everyone here is so caring. It has just become our home away from home.”

November 26, 2014: Offie & Gloria Adair

We welcome Offie and Gloria Adair from Luling, Texas during Thanksgiving week. Gloria is a pre-lung transplant patient at Houston Methodist Hospital and she says, “Nora’s Home is a lovely place. It was a real surprise the first time we arrived. It has all the comforts of home and the staff member are also lovely.”

November 20, 2014: Ron & Margarit McMann

Ron and Margarit McMann come from San Antonio to Nora’s Home because Margarit is recovering from a kidney transplant that was completed at Houston Methodist Hospital. Ron says, “Nora’s Home is such a blessing for us. It is a heavenly place for complete healing physically, mentally and emotionally. We also enjoy the other guests here with their transplant stories.”

November 13, 2014: The Hougland Family

Kaiya Hougland is four years old and recuperating from a liver transplant performed at Texas Children’s Hospital on October 29th 2014. She and her parents, Scott and Elise, travel from San Antonio, Texas and chose to stay with us because, “Nora’s Home is such a comfort to our family and everyone is so welcoming and kind.” Kaiya graciously adds, “I love the hand sanitizer in our room and daddy loves the grill.”

Allison Kimball

Mitchell and Allison Kimball are long-term residents from Lafayette, Louisiana. Mitchell has been an inpatient of Houston Methodist since February but recently received a new heart and kidney on Sunday, November 2nd. His wife, Allison, who has been a guest of Nora’s Home since March says, “While Mitch had been on a total artificial heart and could not leave the hospital since February 28th, I was allowed to rest and recover at Nora’s Home during this extremely difficult time. Mitch was able to take comfort in the fact that I was in a safe, caring and homelike environment that showed me love and support. We can never repay Nora’s Home for their generosity, but we will try and they will remain in our annual giving so that they may comfort others in their time of need. God bless and thanks for all you do and have done.”


Nine-year-old Amaya Flores comes to Nora’s Home for her annual post heart transplant check-up with her grandmother, Mary Ann Olmos. Amaya is from Seguine, TX but she is a patient at the Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston. Mrs. Olmos states, “Nora’s Home is a very nice place to stay. The staff is friendly and hospitable.”

October 15, 2014

Mary Rahal is staying at Nora’s Home because she is donating one of her kidneys to her cousin. She has traveled from Cape Cod, Massachusetts to Houston to be a live donor.  Mrs. Rahal’s transplant will be performed at Houston Methodist Hospital. Mrs. Rahal says, “Nora’s Home provides the comfort and warmth that one needs when far away from home. It’s a beautifully designed facility and the staff is gracious and accommodating. The camaraderie that happens with the residents helps to make one’s stay easier. Dr. Gaber’s vision has become a reality.”

Avys and Sherrod Poe have come to Nora’s home because Mr. Poe, a pre-op transplant patient, has to visit Houston Methodist for regular checkups. When asked about our facility Mr. Poe said, “This is our first visit to Nora’s Home and it is simply beautiful. The staff has been so nice and friendly.”

Our patient of the week is Larry Seguine. Larry comes to Nora’s Home all the way from Walsilla, Alaska and is a post-op Lung patient of Houston Methodist. He has had his new lung for only 9 months and is doing remarkably well. Larry says he wishes he had known about Nora’s Home when he had his transplant.

Rafael Garcia III is visiting Nora’s Home from Laredo, Texas with the support of his father, Rafael Garcia Jr. Rafael. Rafael is a post pancreas and kidney recipient from Memorial Hermann Hospital. He has stayed with us following his transplant surgery and is now visiting for his sixth check up. Mr. Garcia says, “Nora’s Home is truly a home away from home.”

Guests of the week are Monty Carnell and his caregiver Nanette! Monty comes to us from Wissner, Nebraska and is a double LVAD patient of St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital. The two have been guests of Nora’s Home since August 4th.

Monty says “Nora’s Home has been a God send as HE provides what you need. Nora’s Home is a very wonderful place to be. Lots of caring and great people. The staff is amazing and the facility is exceptional. What a great place to be at this time!”

We are so glad to have Monty and Nanette with us.

Meet Jayra Gutierrez. She is a one-and-a-half-year-old from Laredo, TX. She had a liver transplant in October of 2013 and stayed with us at Nora’s Home from March – April 2014.

Her parents bring her back monthly for her post-op appointments.
She continues to flourish and it is always a pleasure to see her.

GUEST OF THE WEEK: Mrs. Maria Trevino was put on the transplant waiting list yesterday and is awaiting two lungs. She comes to us from West Laco and has been with us since August 2nd. Maria is enjoying her time here with the comfortable beds and beautiful rooms and loves how everyone is so very nice.

This week we are saying goodbye to one of Nora’s Home’s favorite guests, 11 year old Jordan Nira. Jordan and his parents arrived at Nora’s Home in February 2014 to wait for “the call” for his Gift of Life. On May 27th Jordan received his heart and we all rejoiced with his family. Although we are happy to see Jordan healthy enough to go home, we will miss their sunny smiles and optimistic spirits.
Jordan’s Mom said, “I love Nora’s Home, the staff and the guests. There should be more Nora’s Homes and I would like to give special thanks to the entire Nora’s Home team.”

Dr. Telemante Sokari, a liver transplant patient, came to Nora’s Home from Kansas. He says, “Nora’s Home is the perfect environment for post transplant patients. It is clean, the guests are friendly and the staff is supportive.”


A liver transplant recipient, Laurence Williams came from Beaumont, Texas with his wife, Kim. Laurence enthusiastically stated, “Nora’s Home is absolutely wonderful! The staff and the other guests make us feel like we’re all one big family.”
